Comfortable and comfortable bed – a guarantee of quality sleep, a healthy spine and good performance. You should not buy a bed based only on its appearance. When choosing a bed you should consider many factors, such as functionality, materials, dimensions, and stylistic features.

How to choose the right bed will prompt the recommendations of experts, but the final decision, of course, the buyer, focusing on his own preferences.

The size and shape of the bed

The size of the bed is the main criterion for choosing a bed, which determines the comfort of the person during sleep and rest. What size bed to choose? Here the rule is simple – the largest bed that will fit in the bedroom, but will not interfere with movement.

Usually on sale are single beds with a width of 80 to 100 cm, single bed – from 100 to 150 cm, double – 160 cm (economy version), 180 cm (the most popular models), 2 m (for a large family bedroom). Read more https://furnihauz.com/

The standard length of beds is 190 cm, but two-meter models will be more comfortable. Much more rarely you can find a “royal” bed 2.18 m long, but such a variant will fit well in a huge bedroom of a country mansion.

How to choose the size of the bed

    • The length of the mattress should be 15 cm more than the height of the user.
    • The correct width parameter is if the person can lie with his arms spread apart without disturbing his partner next to him. For a single bed – the user’s elbows should remain within the mattress.
    • A space of 70 cm or more should be left between the bed and the wall or any piece of furniture to be able to walk up to the bed or to put a bedside table.
    • Height of the bed – so that it would be easy and comfortable for the person to sit down and get up. The ideal parameter: the knees of the standing user are at the level of the upper edge of the mattress.

Choosing the form of bed, it is recommended to give preference to classic rectangular models. If you want to somehow diversify the bed, then the back and footboard with the original decor, a bright blanket and decorative pillows will help to do this.

Of course, the oval, round and arched-shaped beds have a spectacular appearance, but it is not always convenient to sleep on such a bed, and the linen curtains will be difficult to buy – you will have to spend money on the services of a tailoring studio.

    Choice of frame

Manufacturers offer beds with frames of two types: with two supporting headboards and two side tiers, as well as with four tiers, one or two hinged headboards and with supports in the form of legs with or without wheels.

If the bed is of good quality, any frame will be reliable and durable. Models with support backrests are considered more durable, but furniture on legs has a more attractive appearance.

Material of manufacture of the frame

Sturdy frame – a guarantee of long-term operation of the furniture. Manufacturers produce beds from different materials, which allows you to choose a variant for any budget, style and taste.

    • The most expensive is a wooden frame of solid wood. It has excellent appearance and performance characteristics. The cost depends on which bed to choose – the product of oak and other solid wood is the most durable and long-lasting, solid conifers inferior in these indicators, but the price of the frame is much lower.
    • Metal frame – an excellent choice for the styles of high-tech, Provence, American classics. The product is high-strength and durable, but always cold to the touch. Welded beds are on sale, as well as refined and elegant forged models.
    • MDF frame – the best option in terms of quality-price ratio, which ensured such beds high popularity. In appearance, the product is not inferior to wooden construction, but its service life is shorter.
    • A frame made of wood boards is the cheapest furniture, which will not last long and will quickly fall into disrepair. In addition, in the manufacture of sheet materials can use glue based on formaldehyde, a substance dangerous to humans, so when buying such a bed, you need to ask for a quality certificate.

Frames made of sheet materials can be laminated and successfully mimic a cut of wood or solid stone, as well as painted or veneered, covered with fabric or eco-leather, which gives the beds an attractive appearance and increases their value.

Peculiarities of choosing a bed base

The base, firmly attached to the frame, is a reliable support for the mattress. Which bed is better to choose depends on the material and type of construction.

    • Support made of slats – thin, flexible wooden or plastic slats, which sag (but do not break) under load and take the shape that provides orthopedic effect and comfort for the person resting.
    • Metal mesh – it can be soft or hard, serves about 20 years, but does not contribute to a sound and healthy sleep.
    • Spring block – the base, which has not been used in the design of beds for a long time, as it creates inconvenience in the use of the bed.
    • The design of MDF and chipboard – occurs infrequently and serves shortly, quickly destroyed as a result of uneven load, which is created by a sleeping person on the area of the base.

When considering which bed to choose for the bedroom, it is recommended to give preference to furniture with a base made of wooden slats, under which there is no drawer. This way the mattress will be well ventilated, which will prolong its life and prevent the appearance of mold.

    Bed headboard

The most visible and striking element of the bed, which not only adds to the decor of the bed and supports the pillow, allows you to sit comfortably on the mattress in a sitting position while watching TV or reading a book. A bed with a headboard at a slight angle would be a good choice.

Bed headboards come in many shapes, built-in and removable, hard and soft, combined, with a shelf for books and decorative items, with built-in drawers and lighting.

If the bed is pushed close to the wall, the backrest can be made of soft wall panels, wood paneling, artificial stone or wallpaper.

    Bed with a lift mechanism

Under the double bed forms quite a lot of free space, which the manufacturers of beds decided to make useful and use as a compact pantry. Of course, models with drawers also provide storage space, but do not allow the maximum use of useful centimeters.

Another thing is a bed with a rising top – it’s enough to lift the base a little and opens up a large space for storing blankets and pillows, sets of bed linen, seasonal clothing and other things.

How to choose a bed with a lift mechanism

There are several types of lifting mechanisms, the choice of which depends on the possible load.

    • Gaslift – a mechanism with a cylinder-shaped shock absorber filled with air. Provides easy and smooth lifting-lowering of the base with a slight initial shock. Gazlift can lift 100 kg and more, and is used in all types of sofas and beds, including transformers, which are folded by lifting to the wall. Durability of the mechanism – about 85 thousand cycles of rise and fall.
    • The spring mechanism is based on metal springs that can withstand weights of up to 100 kg. The device provides ease of lifting-lowering, but after 15 thousand cycles, the springs are stretched and will need to be replaced.
    • The manual mechanism with hinges in the basis – works by human effort, is quite reliable, and also the cheapest.

    Mattress choice

The quality of sleep and good quality night’s rest directly depends on the mattress. There are spring and non-spring products. The latter are divided by type of filler. The main criterion is stiffness, and here you should consider simple recommendations on how to choose a bed with a mattress.

Sleeping place for children should be rigid, which contributes to the formation of good posture. For the elderly, it is recommended to choose a bed with a soft mattress. Overweight users will need a bed of hard or medium hardness, for the thin – no spring mattresses.

The optimal choice for any age and weight is an orthopedic mattress, laid on lamellae.

What else should be considered when buying a bed?

If you want to give preference to a spacious bed, do not forget that in the room you still need room to install a closet or a roomy chest of drawers, bedside tables, as well as free accesses to the window aperture and a bed.

You should not succumb to fickle fashion and choose beds in the form of a swing, hammock, boat, bird’s nest. These models are unlikely to be comfortable, but you will have to pay a lot of money for them. It is better to give preference to a classic proven option – a simple rectangular design.

Buying a bed and mattress is recommended to arrange only after the future user personally tests the sleeping place.
