If a restraining order is issued against you in New Jersey, you need a reliable restraining order defense lawyer who can help protect your rights. There are various kinds of lawyers who represent clients in restraining order matters such as family lawyers and criminal defense lawyers.

If you have been served a restraining order and want to fight it, you may need a lawyer. Depending on your circumstances, like if you have children, you may want to hire a specific kind of lawyer like a family law attorney.

    What is Restraining Orders?

Restraining orders are issued by the court to keep a person away from some places and people. They are usually used if an individual feels they are not safe or are threatened by another person. Also, companies use restraining orders to keep an individual away after they have committed a workplace crime.

If an order is placed against you, this means you have a criminal record. And it can be used by the requesting party to make your life hard. Usually, those who want a restraining order use it for harassing the other person. But violating the order can result in imprisonment.

    Hiring an Attorney

Depending on your particular case, you may need to hire an attorney with a specific specialization. A restraining order that comes from a family case may be best defended by an attorney who specializes in family law. Restraining orders are often obtained in custody and divorce cases. If you are in these situations, you may be able to benefit from the services of a family law attorney. If the restraining order was issued due to domestic violence charges or other kinds of criminal cases, you may have to work with a criminal defense attorney.

If you are a subject of a restraining order, you must fight it. A restraining order has many consequences beyond just prohibiting you from contacting the protected person. It can also prevent you from seeing your children, damage your reputation, and even affect your current or future employment. In addition, if you do not fight the order, the person who requested the order can call the police if you violate the order and put you in jail. When you choose an attorney, ensure they have handled many cases similar to yours. A lawyer who has been to many restraining order hearings and goes through negotiations knows how exactly to best represent you.
