The good news is that there is no shortage of non-profits around, each serving a purpose for the public. The bad news, especially if you are one of the newer non-profits, is that means there is plenty of competition for donations. There might be other non-profits with a similar but not identical goal to yours, and while you don’t want to see another non-profit fail, you want yours to succeed.
Finding Your Unique Twist
You might find that your non-profit does something that the others don’t, or at least does it in a completely different way. If you were in the business of selling things, this might be called a ‘USP’, but in this context, it will be the thing that separates you from everyone else. If you don’t think you have one, then take a closer look at what you do, or better still, ask other people. If you know why they chose to donate to your non-profit, it can give you an important insight into why others might want to.
Putting It in Front of Other People
Once you have identified what makes you different, you need to get the message out there. You might consider emailing people, but you also know that might not fit with what you do, so you are looking for another way to reach people en-masse.
SMS Texting
One solution could be SMS texting. It can be delivered to all of the people on your database and provide a way of marketing to them that they may not have seen before and, as such, it is more likely to be read. You will, however, need to ensure you get it right, so you will need to find resources detailing how to have a successful mass texting service for nonprofits so you can get the best from this innovative approach.
Underline the Message on Your Website
This type of mass marketing will have a link to a donation page on your website, and this is another area where you can underline your unique qualities. You can show pictures of your current projects and the results that the funds you have already generated have produced. You can also put stories in there from social media (more on that next) so potential donors know they are in the right place.
Use Social Media to Create Insights into Your Business
You can also demonstrate that you are not like all of the others by showing how your non-profit works, including one or two ‘day in the life’ videos that focus on your or the people who volunteer or work for you. This gives people a chance to look ‘under the hood’ and see what happens to their money, or other types of donations. This insight can make them more likely to donate, or at least donate more.
A Few Final Thoughts
If you want to raise the most money for your non-profit, you need to find something that sets you apart from the crowd. This will be different for every non-profit, but once you have found it, you need to make sure everybody knows about it using social media and your website, as well as more innovative methods.
