These components are inherent mainly in diploma projects and master’s theses.
The scientific novelty of the work is, in principle, what the thesis is written for. In this case, it is necessary to specify what kind of discovery this study contributes to the development of science.
To write it, it is advisable to use the words markers, which demonstrate the “scientific discoveries”. Among the words “markers” are most often used:
- systematized for the first time;
- information is put into scientific circulation (if you really have data that the scientific community has not yet possessed);
- for the first time the phenomenon is considered from the standpoint.
Example. The scientific novelty of this work is that for the first time the research of domestic scientists on traditional gender roles in society is systematized.
The practical significance of the work is a statement about where and how the data obtained as a result of the research can be used.
The practical significance consists of two sections:
- Theoretical significance
- Practical significance (sometimes require that these two components be separate structural units, but most often written in one)
The theoretical component should indicate how important your research is to science, for example, this research can be used as a basis for further research on this issue. Or, the systematized data in this study will allow us to consider the issues raised from a new perspective.
Sometimes, when the work is interdisciplinary, it is possible to indicate that your research will allow you to reach a consensus between scientific and practical schools and areas.
When describing the practical significance, it is necessary to take into account those aspects of practical activities in which the information obtained can be implemented. For example, the data obtained can be used by public authorities to adjust their family and marriage policies, and the information can be useful to practical psychologists who deal directly with family counseling.
It is taking into account such features that these structural components of the thesis should be formed, although they take up very little space in your work, it should be remembered that they must be “balanced” every word.
Theoretical part of the thesis
All sections of the diploma project are divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part, all tasks are considered consistently and logically at the theoretical level, information is presented from general to specific, that is, first you need to consider general approaches to studying the problem, then you need to focus on each of them and give them a clear, qualitative description.
Describing a phenomenon, the student can consider it, guided by a chronological principle or logical. In the first case, he studies everything in a time interval (in the historical aspect). In the second case – the author, guided by the logic of events, considers the phenomenology of this phenomenon, determines its place among other phenomena, their relationship, makes its general and distinct definition and studies ways to use it in practice.
The author’s opinion must be present in the theoretical part. He must justify his choice, show his own point of view. And in order for the thesis to be rich, informative and interesting, the student must study a large amount of literature, at least 30 sources. The volume of the theoretical part should be from 30 to 50 pages. In addition, its volume should not differ much from the volume of the practical part.
The author has no right to place in the text of the theoretical part a copy of the fragments and sections that interested him and are directly related to his work. Teachers and researchers are well versed in the scientific literature, they will immediately suspect the presence of plagiarism and then the grade will be reduced, and the author himself will receive a bad reputation.
At the end of each paragraph, the student should make small thesis conclusions, and complete the entire theoretical part of a separately written section called “Conclusions”, where he will cover the main theoretical provisions that were discussed in the previous section.
Usually the scheme of writing the theoretical part is as follows:
- search for literature;
- study the literature and copy the necessary fragments;
- comparison of selected fragments, their generalization and logical placement in the text of the work.
In order for a theoretical section to be written at a high level, a student must work well for 1-3 months, it all depends on how much time he can devote to this case, as well as personal abilities. In any case, if you make the necessary efforts and do not spare time or buy narrative essay, you can achieve a good result.
Good luck and success!
