The front elevation of your home is the first impression a visitor has and if your exterior has seen better days, but you don’t want to spend a fortune, there are things you can do to improve the look of your property.
We asked a real estate specialist to give us a few tips on boosting a property’s exterior.
- Perimeter fencing – Your local lumber mill in Maryland can provide timber fencing at very affordable prices and a long weekend would see the project complete. Treated timber is recommended, with solid posts and if your gating leaves a lot to be desired, build a suitable gate to complete the look.
- Power wash the roof – Your roof no doubt has a thin layer of grime and possibly moss is growing in some areas; hire a jet wash machine for the weekend or better still, invest in a decent unit, which can be used for many things. A lot of the homes for sale in Melbourne use this technique before the open house. Once you have restored the roof to its original state, the decking and driveway can also be cleaned; there is an art to using this machine, leaving a clean and even finish, rather than stripes and practice does indeed make perfect. - Driveway – The power wash might be the answer, but if you feel a replacement is best, consider block paving; create stunning patterns using two or more colours and if you go down the DIY route, it won’t cost a lot. Block paving can take the weight of a motorhome and a power wash every few months keeps the surface looking like it was just installed. - Render – This is the cheapest way to revamp the property exterior; today’s render offers fantastic insulation properties and you can choose a stunning colour to revamp the way your home looks. - Plant a row omnadren of Conifer trees – It might be next to the entrance or down one side in front of the fence, planting a row of small evergreens will add colour and depth to your exterior. Trim and shape every year and you will have a beautiful natural feature and conifers don’t shed their leaves.
